The aim of the Public Power campaign is to get private utilities like ConEd out of our electrical system. These are private companies that put profit over the environment and human well being. If we had a public utility controlled by the people, we could transition to renewable energy, lower rates and guarantee that no one’s service gets shut off. This was important before, and now that we are in a pandemic and depression, it’s an absolute necessity. We are working to pass two bills in the NY legislature that would make this a reality.

The ESWG is mobilizing behind this bill from Jamaal Bowman, which will retrofit schools with green infrastructure and give financial aid to the poorer ones. The aim of the Green New Deal for Public Schools campaign (GND4PS) is recruiting DSA members from the communities in the poorest school districts in NYC, and building relationships with teachers and trades unions.
